I’ve never really been one for taking supplements, I’ve always preferred to get my nutrients from food. However since injuring my hip almost three months ago, I’ve been willing to try anything to promote healing and aid recovery. I’d heard about the benefits of supplements for sports-related injuries, so I started to research if there was anything I could take to support my recovery.

Cardiff Sports Nutrition recommended their Animal Flex 44 CT supplement pack as complete, comprehensive and effective option for joint health. I must admit I was a little unsure of the product based on the packaging- it resembles an energy drink! The supplement pack is marketed to bodybuilders to protect joints from the rigours of heavy duty weight training. However, the ingredients are suitable for any strength or endurance athletes.

The container holds 44 servings and each serving is made up of 8 pills- quite a handful to swallow! Each serving is made up of:

Joint Construction Complex– to help repair connective tissue.

  • Glucosamine
  • Methlysulfonylmethane (MSM)
  • Chrondroitin Sulfate A
  • Chrondoitin Sulfate C

Joint Lubrication Complex– to help cushion the joints.

  • Flaxseed Oil
  • Cetyl Myristoleate
  • Hyaluronic Acid

Joint Support Complex– to help promote rehabilitation and reduce soreness.

  • Ginger Root
  • Turmeric Root
  • Boswellia
  • Quercetin
  • Bromelain

Key Vitamin/Mineral support blend– to help underscore optimal joint health.

  • Vitamin C
  • Vitamin E
  • Zinc
  • Selenium
  • Manganese
All quality ingredients which have properties to inhibit inflammation, increase joint mobility and delaying the breakdown of cartilage.

I’ve been taking a pack of pills daily for the past three weeks. It’s advised to take them with water at a mealtime, so I generally take them at breakfast. The pills are easy to swallow and do not leave an aftertaste. Some of these ingredients have reported side-effects, but I haven’t had any problems since taking the supplement.

Obviously, it is difficult to ascertain how much the product has contributed to my recovery from injury. There has been a massive improvement in my symptoms, but I am still unable to run without pain. I’ve been combining the supplements with a strengthening programme from my physio as well as generally resting. I’ve also been seeing a specialist and undergone an X-Ray and MRI scan to find out the cause of my hip problems. My results are due next week, so I’ll post an update then.

The pack retails at £26.57 which will last for 44 days. I think is great value for such a comprehensive range of ingredients- to buy each of the supplements separately would definitely work out much more costly.

I’m not expecting miracles, but I will continue to take these supplements and monitor any improvements to my joint health.

Supplements were provided by Cardiff Sports Nutrition for review, but all opinions are my own.
