Tri Training- My Week 3

Last week was a pretty good week of training….

Monday
Indoor Cycling class at Cycle Rhythm- 45 mins
I started the week with session at the studio, we welcomed a new instructor to the schedule so I wanted to check out her class. Lauren’s class was a total sweat-fest with pumping music and speedy sprints!

Tuesday
5 mile run
I followed a familiar route through the country park and got caught in the rain, which was actually nice and refreshing.

Wednesday
12 mile cycle with Havering Tri
A fairly short ride with the club, as the nights are drawing in and it is starting to get darker earlier, we aimed to not venture too far. We kept the pace steady and followed a relatively flat route avoiding the usual hills.

Thursday
Hatha Vinyasa Yoga class- 60 mins
I made use of a Groupon voucher to try out a yoga class at a fitness studio which has recently opened opposite my office. It’s been a little while since I took a vinyasa class and I really felt the benefit of the stretches and hip-opening moves.

Friday
Indoor Cycling class at Cycle Rhythm- 45 mins
Another tough day at work 🙂 this time I did the early-bird 6.30am which set me up nicely for the day. Great energy in the studio despite the early start!

Saturday
Bike maintenance lesson
Cycling lesson with Cycle Training East
Yet another lesson on bike maintenance- my third in a month! I will be an expert on changing inner tubes at this rate!
This lesson was a lot more in depth, with more focus on bike mechanics. We covered topics including adjusting brakes, oiling the components, and removing a tire without using levers! Glen joined me for this class at a local community centre, and we both learned a great deal about our bikes and how to keep them in perfect condition.

Glen getting some help with his brakes!

After this we rushed off to meet our cycling instructor for a further lesson on safe road cycling. We practiced U-turns, approaching junctions and negotiating right-hand turns. It might sound very basic, but as a newcomer to cycling, I’ve found these lessons really important to help me feel more comfortable and safe when I’m out on a training ride.

Sunday
Aquathlon- 400m swim/5k run
An event organised by my triathlon club, which I re-capped here

I’m training for the Tri Together triathlon on 31st August, to raise money for people with disabilities. As well as the Tri for Life triathlon on 7th September which funds a variety of causes including Great Ormond Street, Teenage Cancer Trust and Rays of Sunshine for seriously ill children. I’d really appreciate any sponsorship for either cause, through my Just Giving pages here and here.
