You may have seen the #1percentmore challenge popping up on social media recently. Each week Spogo run a new challenge, and this week I’m pleased to have been asked to host the challenge.
The #1percentmore initiative was started in January by Spogo as way to encourage the nation to get more active and highlight the health benefits of doing just 1% more exercise (or 15 minutes daily).
Some pretty shocking facts prompted this action:
- Nearly two thirds of UK adults risk their health through insufficient exercise
- A University of Bristol-led study found 80% of adults in England failed to meet the government target of taking moderate exercise 12 times in a four-week period
- If the whole nation was just 1% more active we could save the NHS £1.2 billion within five years.
To perform a wall squat, stand with your back against a wall, planting your feet 12″ in front of your body in a shoulder-width stance, toes pointing forward. Leaning against the wall, lower your body until your knees are flexed at a 90 degree angle. Hold this position for as long as possible!
This challenge doesn’t require any equipment and is suitable for all fitness levels and abilities- give it a try while you are watching TV.
I managed 4 minutes and 2 seconds! Let me know how you get on via Twitter @lucylunges using the hashtag #1percentmore.
